Epson have a knack for bringing high spec, good value multifunction printers to the market and they seem to have done it again with the stylus SX200. One thing the competition lacks is value for money printer ink cartridges, the Epson SX200 ink cartridges are slightly different. It uses four individual colour Epson ink cartridges which means if one colour runs out you only need to replace that one colour and the other cartridges are unaffected. The cartridges are still not as cheap as we would like them to be costing around £30 for a complete set but the ink configuration does make the SX200 more economical than its competitors. Even though the SX200 as a modest price tag it still offers a good array of functions including photo quality printing, scanning and coping as well as direct printing from digital cameras and memory cards. It most impressive feature is its print quality which is well above what you would expect from a budget printer. This is thanks to its class leading 5760 x 1440dpi print resolution which means all types of documents from basic text to high resolution graphics have an excellent finish on every print. The weakness feature of the SX200 is its printing speed and this also affects the copying capabilities as well as printing. Epson state the SX200 is capable of 34ppm but the real world figure is more like 4ppm in a decent quality setting that most people what require. This weakness doesn’t make the SX200 a bad printer it still good value for money and does most things better than it competitors.
